About Cape Agulhas

The Southernmost Point of Africa

Cape Agulhas is a geographical landmark located at the southernmost point of the African continent. Only 2.5 hours from Cape Town, Cape Agulhas is recognised as South Africa’s most southern coastal village and ‘tip of Africa’, marking the official point where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet.

"You are now at the southern-most tip of the continent of Africa"

The charm of L’Agulhas doesn’t just lie in its geographical significance. The Cape Agulhas and Struisbaai coastlines are also renowned for being home to some of the best fishing spots in the world.

The convergence of the two ocean currents and the nutrient-rich, shallow Agulhas sandbank have created a historic community of local fishing charters, while putting Cape Agulhas on the map as one of South Africa’s top deep sea and coastal fishing locations.

Two Oceans Meet

2km from the tip of Africa, and within walking distance from the Lighthouse, the guest house is a seaside holiday treat along the West Coast. Fresh sea air, cozy rooms, and South Africa’s southernmost town await you.

Whale Watching

Whales and marine life are abundant off the coast of Cape Agulhas and Struisbaai. The unique convergence of the two ocean currents makes the point of Africa one of the best places in the world to see Southern Right Whales.

Every year, between August and November, Cape Agulhas becomes home to migrating humpback whales, dolphins, turtles and, most notably, Southern Right Whales searching for shallow waters and oxygen rich nurseries to birth their calves.

Removed from the crowds of Hermanus and False Bay, Cape Agulhas is also a rare delight for tourists and locals hoping to get up-close with the whales, as the region offers a more private and personalised whale watching experience.

Fishing in Cape Agulhas

The Cape Agulhas sandbank is a renowned fishing site made famous for its shallow waters and converging ocean currents. The nutrient-rich waters attract a variety of coastal fish species, making it an excellent fishing spot for recreational and professional anglers.

For those who prefer more of a challenge, Cape Agulhas is also the perfect location for deep-sea fishing, with many popular sport fish (Blue Marlin, Yellow Fin Tuna, and more) found in the L’Agulhas waters.
